Parrucë Mosque
About
The Parrucë Mosque stands on Rruga Studenti in one of Shkodër's older inner-city neighbourhoods, a few minutes' walk from the cathedral and the Diocesan Museum. It is one of the historic mosques of the city centre, rebuilt after the communist period, when all Albanian mosques were closed under the 1967 ban on religious practice.
The original mosque on the site was part of the dense fabric of the Ottoman-era city, where mosques, churches and bektashi tekkes coexisted within a few streets of each other — a pattern that Shkodër maintained more durably than most Albanian cities. The rebuilt structure is modest in scale and serves the local community rather than visitors, but it is open outside prayer times for those who wish to enter.
