Arriving in Albania
Tirana airport, land borders, and ferry ports — how to get from arrival to your first night.
Tirana International (TIA) is the main airport, 17 km north-west of the city. Official taxis queue outside arrivals — agree the fare or use the meter. Shuttle buses run to the centre on a schedule; pre-booked transfers are easiest after late flights.
Land borders with Greece, North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Montenegro are straightforward for EU/UK travellers. Have insurance documents if you are driving a rental across a border — check your rental agreement first.
Ferries serve Durrës (Italy), Sarandë and Vlorë (Corfu and Italy in season). Book foot-passenger ferries ahead in July and August.
Allow extra time on arrival day for SIM registration, cash withdrawal, and rental-car paperwork if applicable.
